Rules of thirds

I am on a cross country road trip to Los Angeles and this was taken in the town I am staying in tonight Grand Junction, CO.

  1. It looks like you got 2-for-1 with the first shots. Not only did you get the rule of thirds but you get framing as well. The second one being more successful with the framing because there is something within the circle of the fountain. Your other shots are getting there but there are so many objects within the image space that it's hard to discern which is in the rule of thirds and which isn't. It's better to isolate an object when doing this assignment. Also, another note is that if there is a person or animal or object that has implied motion, it is best to leave space on the side of the image plane where the motion is intended to go. So, for your horse above it would have been better to have placed him on the third lines on the left of the image plane. Keep on taking photos!

  2. I like the circular sculpture as in the third photo you cannot see all the item, leaving the viewer using our imagination, feeling like it is incomplete! Then looking at the full image it almost feels like they are two different items.
Your second set of photos of the horse and rider sculpture, I agree that it does give the sense that the horse is actually walking away from you. Was this your intent?

  3. I like the last picture. The way you composed it gives the feeling that the horse could still be moving, instead of a more stationary feeling in the centered shot. I also like how it added in the corner of the building and the stairs, although I'm not sure why but it seems more appealing to me.
